the project 459 purpose
entry eleven of the 459 project and marathon mission
Its that time of year…
Another marathon running to draw awareness and assistance for the displaced and destitute.
This year, we will be referring to it as the 459 project.
For two basic reasons:
4 hours, 59 minutes
(I will be attempting to subvert the 5 hour mark, which I was on pace to do in last year’s race before “the foot incident.” (My previous best is 5 hours, 8 minutes).
2 Corinthians 4:5-9
(Remember, our Message is not about ourselves; we’re proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Master. All we are is messengers, errand runners from Jesus for you. It started when God said, “Light up the darkness!” and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful.
If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us. As it is, there’s not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; we’ve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken.)
How can you, my friends and literary audience, get involved?
-Run: You can join me for a training run like a teaching friend OR join the marathon in December like one of my students
-Donate: Your time in street service like many have done OR offer supplies that are most needed like my donors and the clubs from school do… Shout out to Gautier High School’s Key Club, FCCLA, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Girls Powerlifting in particular!
-Share: Relate our cause to your churches, club organizations, or social media accounts. You can follow our progress with journal entries posted on Substack at https://substack.com/@sleepingbagguy and updates through the GoFundMe.
-Give: at GOFundMe https://gofund.me/e68659dc9 OR give directly to the Arms of Mercy, Inc. (Greenville, MS)...these offerings go directly to meet needs in our recovery program, transition houses, and street outreaches.
Arms of Mercy, Inc. is funded strictly by donations. We are a nonprofit 501 c3 corporation governed by a Board of Directors. We do not solicit funds from any governmental or social agencies. We are dedicated to reconstructing the lives of the hopeless. Your gifts and prayers assure that the Arms of Mercy, Inc. will continue to help those in need.
